SAN DIEGO - A one-acre brush fire in a canyon near a housing development in Otay Mesa south of Knott's Soak City water park was quickly extinguished by firefighters on Saturday.

The fire was reported at about 12:06 p.m. in a canyon near the 600 block of Vista San Javier.

It was contained at about 12:30 p.m., according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher. About 40 firefighters battled the blaze. Some remained on scene to mop up.

The dispatcher said the fire started in brush in the foothills between the water park and the housing development.

No home were threatened and no injuries were reported.
