Crews repair gas leak in Chula Vista

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - A gas leak in Chula Vista that shut down businesses was fixed as of Friday, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.
The gas line break was reported at about 3:15 p.m. Thursday at a construction site along Eastlake Parkway. The incident forced Chula Vista police to close the intersection of Eastlake Parkway and Birch Road.
Police also shut down a stretch of Eastlake Parkway between Birch Road and Crossroads Street. Crews were able to fix the leak just before midnight.
10News learned a backhoe working at a nearby construction project accidentally struck the gas line, causing the break.
SDG&E officials said the hot and windy weather is helping the gas dissipate and reducing the danger.
No injuries were reported, and police said no homes were evacuated as of 6:15 p.m.
10News learned the same gas line had a break further down Interstate 805 about a week ago, but that incident is not related to Thursday afternoon's break.
