OCEANSIDE - A body was found in a burned mobile home in Oceanside Tuesday, authorities said.
The fire at 76 Hummingbird Lane in the San Luis Rey Mobile Home Park was reported shortly before 5:30 a.m., and the home was engulfed in flames when police and firefighters arrived about three minutes later, Oceanside police Lt. Ron Hardy said.
“First units got here they were unable to enter the building that was on fire due to the large volume of fire, so they helped in evacuating the surrounding units," said Battalion Chief William Kogerman with the Oceanside Fire Department.
The body was found inside once the fire was out.
Neighbors say the victim was an elderly man who lived in the park since 2007. They said he mostly kept to himself and lived in the mobile home alone.
“It’s sad when you lose anybody, you hate to see that," said neighbor Phil Hauser. "[It's] particularly sad to have a fire so close to your own home."
The coroner removed the body from the charred mobile home around 11:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
