Crews battling 3-alarm fire at downtown San Diego building

SAN DIEGO - Firefighters are working to extinguish a three-alarm fire at a building near 9th Avenue and Broadway in downtown San Diego.

The fire was reported at about 10:45 p.m. Crews arrived on scene to see flames and smoke coming from the second floor of the building, which appear to be residential apartments.

A 10News photographer on scene reported hearing some kind of explosion that blew out several windows of a unit on the first floor.

The apartment building next door has been evacuated. There is no word what caused the fire. No injuries were immediately reported.
