Crews put out Escondido brush fire

Fire briefly threatened homes

ESCONDIDO, Calif. - Crews were able to extinguish a small brush fire off the 2100 block of Bear Valley Parkway in Escondido that briefly threatened homes.

According to Escondido fire officials, the blaze started at about 2 p.m. in the backyard of a home on Bear Valley Parkway. The fire then spread to surrounding palm trees, brush and nearby homes.

Several residents were evacuated, but crews were able to put out the fire just before 2:45 p.m.

According to officials, the blaze destroyed at least one outbuilding and several vehicles.

No injuries were reported.
