Light rain throughout county

SAN DIEGO - San Diego's mostly light afternoon showers Sunday packed a powerful punch and caused a lot of problems around the county.
No one can say exactly how it happened, but light rain in the area may be a factor in a crash along along Interstate 5 near Solana Beach involving a red SUV and a sedan.
Another crash was reported along the I-5 near Sherman Heights.
There, the woman behind the wheel waited patiently to be pulled out by emergency crews.
“It was a difficult process peeling apart the car that you can see is smashed up against that post and without hurting her,” said Battalion Chief Ty Shimoguchi with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
A huge tree branch also fell on top of a woman along Mission Bay.
“I was walking and heard a ‘tch tch thch, I thought someone was cutting a tree," said 9-year-old Aldo Jacobo from Hemet. :But I looked back and saw it falling and I just ran."
He was here for a family reunion that took place all day, right under the tree. The family watched as the branch came crashing down.
“I just happened to be looking this way and I hear a big snap then I see the tree coming down,” said Melissa Jacobo, who was also a witness. “We all ran to help to see who was under there.”
The tree incident happened about an hour after a light rain, but it’s unclear if the weight of the water on the old branches caused the fall.
A 31-year-old woman, not related to the families gathered for the reunion, was taken to an area hospital for emergency treatment.
A few miles away, sections of another tree fell in Pacific Beach. A homeowner along Chalcedony Street told 10News that a 60-year-old palm tree in fell on top of a sedan, cracking the windshield.
