SAN DIEGO – Good Samaritans rushed to rescue a couple whose SUV rolled down an embankment off Interstate 805 Tuesday morning after allegedly being cut off by another vehicle.

The crash occurred at 3:11 a.m. on I-805 south near State Route 163 and the Montgomery Field Airport. According to witnesses, the vehicle was somehow run off the road by another SUV.

The SUV rolled multiple times before coming to rest down an embankment on the side of the freeway. Several witnesses ran to the car, where a couple was trapped inside.

The couple were freed by Good Samaritans, including a semi-truck driver and two people who happened to be stopped in the area changing a flat tire. They only had minor injuries.

The suspect reportedly briefly stopped at the scene before driving away. There was no immediate description of the vehicle or its driver.

California Highway Patrol is investigating.
