SAN MARCOS, Calif. - A man and a woman who thought they were in San Marcos to pay for repairs to an ATV ended up getting robbed at gunpoint, a sheriff's sergeant said Saturday.
The victims told deputies that about 8 p.m. Friday they took money to the intersection of Rock Springs and Nordahl roads to pick up the man whom a mutual friend hired to repair the quad ATV, Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Vrabel said.
Vrabel said the suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Emmanuel Andujo directed the couple to the intersection of Spanish Oak Avenue and Brook Road, where he told them to stop and showed them a handgun.
The Sergeant said Andujo then ran off with the keys to the victims' car.
One of the victims recovered the keys and saw the suspect getting into the passenger side of a parked vehicle, then he got back in his car and caught up to the suspect vehicle, Vrabel said.
The victim then used his car to ram the suspects' vehicle in an attempt to stop it, which caused the suspects' vehicle to spin out and become disabled, Vrabel said.
The suspected robber and the driver then ran toward a nearby Wal-Mart, he said.
Deputies launched a search using dogs and a helicopter to find the suspects.
A resident called 911 to report there was a man she did not know on her porch, Vrabel said.
Deputies arrested Andujo, and he was booked into the Vista jail on two counts of armed robbery.
They say the driver got away.
