Crews will conduct the prescribed burn in the McCain Valley area east of Live Oak Springs between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday and again Thursday, according to Cal Fire.

In addition to removing dry vegetation from about 125 acres in the remote locale, the operation will serve as a "valuable training tool," said Cal Fire Capt. Mike Mohler.

The resulting smoke likely will be visible from many parts of the county, he said.
