SAN DIEGO -

Plumes of smoke may be visible over Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on Saturday as military firefighters burn off brush.

The prescribed fires in the area of the station's airfield will take place over a six-hour period, beginning about 9 a.m., according to the USMC officials.

The operation is part of the base's preparations for the 2012 Miramar Air Show, scheduled for Oct. 12-14.

No visibility restrictions are expected in surrounding areas.
