Democratic National Committee to vote on resolution calling for Bob Filner to resign

WASHINGTON - The Democratic National Committee plans to vote on a resolution this week urging San Diego Mayor Bob Filner to resign.

The embattled mayor has been accused of sexually harassing more than a dozen women.

The resolution will urge Filner to resign immediately and says that the Democratic Party condemns anyone who creates a hostile work place or sexually harasses women or men. It's expected to be voted on Friday at the DNC's summer meeting in Phoenix.

DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz urged Filner to resign in a statement in July. Filner is a former Democratic congressman.

The mayor has undergone therapy after acknowledging he disrespected and intimidated women. He has denied committing sexual harassment.

A draft copy of the resolution obtained by CNN stated:

"We cannot reassure voters that a vote for a Democrat is a vote for a champion for women unless Democrats walk our talk on equality and take firm action in accordance with our values and stand up for women by condemning his behavior and calling on him to immediately resign as Mayor of San Diego."
