A Gaslamp District businessman has lost his battle to save his property from being taken for a redevelopment project, 10News reported.
The San Diego City Council voted Tuesday to begin eminent domain proceedings against Ahmed Mesdaq, the owner of the Gran Havana Cigar Store, located on Fifth Avenue and J Street.
A developer wants to build a Marriot hotel on the property.
The city had offered $3 million to buy the property, but Mesdaq refused it as too low.
