Chula Vista woman wins Oscars red carpet bleacher contest

Shelly Ro chosen from more than 3,000 entries

SAN DIEGO - In two weeks, a Chula Vista woman will have the opportunity of a lifetime: a front-row seat to watch stars come down the red carpet for the Academy Awards.

Even at a young age, Shelly Ro knew she loved to perform, whether it was dancing or acting in commercials.

"I've been obsessed with movies and action … everything that revolves around film," she said.

Though it was her passion, she set it aside to get her degree and work for a nonprofit organization. It did not take long before the acting bug came buzzing back.

"Now it's 100 percent what I live and breathe for," Ro said.

Already a self-proclaimed movie buff, Ro decided to enter the Oscars Fan Appreciation Week contest, where she used social media to get noticed by the organization, hoping to snag one of the bleacher seats watching the red carpet activities.

Ro said three weeks later, she got a letter from them on an Oscars letterhead which let her know that she won the tickets.

She beat out more than 3,000 contenders and in two weeks, she will be feet away from her favorite celebrities. Ro says her first love was Leonardo DiCaprio.

"So, it will be fun to see him," she said.

Now that she has accomplished this goal, she is working to make it back to the Academy Awards, only this time, she wants to walk out with an Oscar.
