CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Chula Vista man is praising the local police department after police recovered some of the precious possessions stolen from his house when it was ransacked last week.

Eric Deas said thieves broke in last Wednesday and walked away with computers, jewelry, and handwritten notes from his mother who died less than two years ago.

“With her arthritic hand she wrote, ‘Son, I love you. I miss you,’” said Deas. “I was upset. I was very upset.”

Deas cried outside his home when he realized what was missing.

“It’s the only thing that bothers me,” he said. “They took my mom’s, they took my mom’s cards to me. It’s the only thing I had left that she wrote on to me.”

Deas said a Chula Vista Police Detective called him Tuesday to tell him they recovered some of his items and the cards written by his mother.

“Words can’t comprehend my gratitude that I feel thanks to the Chula Vista Police Department,” he said. “They were wonderful.”

He also purchased an ADT security system on the same day to prevent any burglaries from happening again.

Deas said Chula Vista Police will return his mother’s cards next week after they’re done processing them for evidence.
