Chula Vista Elementary School District teams up with VH1

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The Chula Vista Elementary School District is getting a musical boost from cable music channel VH1.

The network and its Save the Music Foundation announced Wednesday the district is one of two districts nationwide to partner with the Foundation.

The foundation will purchase $30,000 worth of musical equipment for every CVESD school to hire a full-time music teacher beginning next school year. It's a huge grant when you consider there are 45 schools in the district.

"And with 45 schools total, that's a lot of instruments," said VH1 Save the Music Foundation spokeswoman Jaclyn Rudderow.

Four schools have already made their hires for next year.

"Having a full-time teacher on campus is that key to sustainability," said Rudderow.

It's a huge step for the district, as it did not even have music a few years ago because of budget cuts.

To date, the VH1 Save the Music Foundation has donated $51 million worth of musical equipment to 1,900 public schools nationwide.
