Nearly 3,200 vehicles passed through the checkpoint in the 200 block of East Orange Avenue, near Melrose Avenue, between 7:30 p.m. Friday and 12:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Chula Vista police Officer Alicia Chudy.

Officers found seven drivers with suspended licenses and seven with no licenses, Chudy said. Officers issued 15 citations for other vehicle code violations, she said.

The checkpoint was held to raise public awareness, decrease the number of drunken or drugged drivers as well as to ensure drivers had valid licenses, Chudy said.
