More than 2,200 vehicles passed through the checkpoint that was set up in the vicinity of North Fourth Avenue and C Street between 7 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, according to Chula Vista police Officer Alicia Chudy.

Officers arrested two suspected drunken drivers, one of whom also had a suspended license that stemmed from prior drunken driving charges, Chudy said.

Four other drivers were found driving with a suspended license and officers caught seven without a license, Chudy said. Officers issued 24 citations for various other code violations.

The checkpoint was held to raise public awareness, to decrease the number of drunken or drugged drivers and to ensure drivers had valid licenses, Chudy said.
