A 12-year-old Chula Vista boy died after falling about 300 to 350 feet from a cliff while sightseeing on Maui.

Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said Cristian Lopez was traveling with his family Sunday along a winding and scenic route to Hana that's popular among tourists. The family stopped at a cliff along Honomanu Bay when he fell into the ocean.The boy was brought to shore but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.Police said the family had parked their rental car at the lookout when Cristian quickly ran out and disappeared over the cliff's edge.Mainaga said the cliff is a popular tourist spot but it's not considered an official scenic lookout.
