SAN DIEGO - A 32-year-old child pornography suspect is in custody Friday for allegedly showing up at a Mission Valley hotel with the intention of sexually assaulting young children and videotaping the crimes.
Samuel Farinas Fernandez Jr. of San Diego was taken into custody late Thursday morning outside the hotel after meeting with an undercover FBI agent posing as a co-conspirator, according to the federal agency.
The accusations against Fernandez stem from an investigation by the Cleveland FBI Field Office into the activities of 32-year-old William J. DeClark IV, who was suspected of trading sexually explicit images of children via a Russian image-hosting website. Fernandez allegedly was among more than 100 people taking part in the offenses.
To further the case, the FBI surreptitiously took over DeClark's email account, after which Fernandez allegedly accessed it to transmit additional child porn images.
Unaware he was communicating with law enforcement officers, Fernandez allegedly expressed interest in videotaping and performing acts of child molestation, then arranged to participate this week in the molestation of a 6-year-old girl and year-old boy, according to the FBI.
Fernandez was booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown San Diego on suspicion of distribution of child pornography and enticement of minors. He was expected to make his initial court appearance in the case Friday afternoon.
