A 3-year-old girl was recovering Sunday after nearly drowning at the East County Transitional Center's pool.

The girl, identified only as "Ruby," accidentally fell into the pool on Saturday afternoon, El Cajon Police Department officials said.

Police said the girl's mother pulled her out of the pool, but did not offer additional details about the incident.

Pastor Ricardo McKinley told CW6 News he performed CPR on the girl.

"I thought she was gone," said McKinley, who added he had never performed the life-saving procedure until Saturday. "But I said, 'Jesus, not on my watch, please.' "

Paramedics took the girl to Sharp Grossmont Hospital for treatment; her condition was not available as of this morning.

The transitional living center, located on the 1500 block of East Main Street in El Cajon, assists those dealing with homelessness or substance abuse.
