More than 670 vehicles passed through the checkpoint set up in the 2100 block of El Cajon Boulevard, near Alabama Street, between 9:08 p.m. Friday and midnight, according to San Diego police Officer Mark McCullough.

One suspected drunken driver was arrested and three vehicles were impounded at or near the checkpoint, McCullough said.

Officers later conducted saturation patrols in Hillcrest and Pacific Beach, and eight more suspected drunken drivers were arrested, McCullough said.

"Drinking alcohol and driving do not mix. If you plan to consume alcohol, you should also plan not to get behind the wheel of a vehicle, or ride a motorcycle," McCullough said.
