NATIONAL CITY, Calif. - A man was arrested Thursday morning in National City after police said he rammed and pursued a car his ex-girlfriend was riding in.

National City police said the incident unfolded shortly before 2:30 a.m. when a woman and man traveling on 28th Street were spotted by the woman's ex-boyfriend.

Police told 10News the ex-boyfriend, in a Toyota Corolla, rammed the couple's Chevrolet, but the couple sped off to southbound Interstate 5.

A high-speed chase ensued, with the Corolla chasing and ramming the Chevy on the freeway before both vehicles exited on 8th Street. Police said the Corolla T-boned the Chevy on 8th Street, pushing it up the street.

Once both cars were at a stop, the ex-boyfriend jumped out and began running after the other man.

Officers who responded to the pursuit tracked down the ex-boyfriend near the crash scene and arrested him at gunpoint.

Officers said they were surprised no one was injured in the chase and crash.

The ex-boyfriend is expected to face an attempted murder charge, police told 10News.

The woman told police her ex ambushed her while she and the other man were on their first date.
