SAN DIEGO - Charges were filed Monday against a driver suspected in a Feb. 1 crash that killed a nanny and injured the young child she was pushing in a stroller.

The San Diego County District Attorney's Office announced Christine Padilla, 35, was charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter, one count of failure to stop at a red light and one count of failure to yield to a pedestrian within a crosswalk.

Authorities said 41-year-old Monserrat Mendez was pushing a 13-month-old baby boy in a stroller in the crosswalk at Camino del Sur and Via Verrazzano when Padilla -- driving a Toyota SUV -- apparently ran a red light and struck Mendez and the child.

Mendez was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries. The young boy suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized for several days.

Padilla was not injured in the crash.

Padilla is scheduled to be arraigned March 18.
