SAN DIEGO - A cement-mixer truck overturned on a Mission Valley freeway interchange Wednesday, leaving the driver trapped and injured, and forcing the closure of the heavily traveled connector.
The commercial vehicle toppled over on the ramp from westbound Interstate 8 to southbound State Route 163 shortly after 10:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.
The wreck blocked the roadway and left the trucker pinned underneath his rig by one of his arms, a dispatcher said. It took emergency crews about 45 minutes to jack up the vehicle enough to free the victim, after which medics took him to a trauma center. The extent of his injuries was not immediately clear.
The interchange was reopened at about 1 p.m., according to Caltrans.
