CARLSBAD, Calif. - An 80-year-old Carlsbad man with dementia, who disappeared Tuesday, was found safe Thursday and reunited with his family, according to police.

Edward Mason disappeared after getting off a bus near the Westfield Plaza Camino Real mall.

The Carlsbad Police Department announced Thursday afternoon that he was safe and back home, but did not offer details about where he was found or where he had been for the past two days.

Matson rode a North County Transit District from his home near Rancho Carlsbad Golf Club to the transit stop near the intersection of Marron Road and El Camino Real Tuesday morning. His family believed at the time that he may have been traveling north, possibly to the San Francisco Bay Area.
