2 SUVs found abandoned 100 feet down cliff near El Capitan Reservoir

LAKESIDE, Calif. - Emergency crews Monday found two SUVs that apparently rolled down about 100 feet from a road in Lakeside.
The investigation ended up being a safety issue, as it became too dangerous for rescue crews to try and make it back because of the road conditions. Crews had to wait for a bulldozer for assistance.
A fisherman reported seeing a white vehicle at about 7:35 a.m. Once crews got up the hill by hiking through the rough terrain, they found an abandoned white Nissan Pathfinder. Several yards away from that, crews found a blue Nissan Pathfinder. It was also abandoned and the license plate was removed.
It is unclear how the vehicle ended up in the area, but initial reports indicated that a crash may have occurred off Peutz Valley, which runs south to north along the southeast side of the El Capitan Reservoir.
Witnesses said the white Pathfinder has been abandoned for days. California Highway Patrol officials said the car was not stolen.
Authorities said they will speak to the white Pathfinder's owner to see what needs to be done with the vehicle.
