CHULA VISTA, Calif. - A cellphone charging cord led to a crash that knocked down a pole and completely blocked traffic on Main Street in Chula Vista for those heading to a Dave Matthews concert Friday evening.

The crash happened at the intersection of Main Street and Heritage Road -- a main route to Sleep Train Amphitheatre.

Chula Vista police said a 19-year-old driving the car got a cellphone charger cord tangled up around his legs and crashed into a pole when he reached down to try to free himself.

The downed pole led to major delays for concertgoers heading to the venue, prompting traffic to be diverted to alternate routes.

Police asked those attending the concert, which begins at 8 p.m., to enter the venue from state Route 905 and Caliente Avenue.

Shortly before 6 p.m., two eastbound lanes of Main Street were reopened from Interstate 805 to the Sleep Train Amphitheatre entrance, Chula Vista police said.

The Dave Matthews Band is performing in Chula Vista to celebrate their 25th anniversary. An estimated 12,000 people are expected to attend.
