Car carrier catches fire on NB I-15 near Gopher Canyon Road

SAN DIEGO - Traffic was backed up on northbound Interstate 15 near Gopher Canyon Road for about two hours after a car carrier caught fire.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the rear axle of the carrier somehow caught fire and spread to one of the vehicles on the transport at about 5:30 p.m.
The CHP reported one of the vehicles exploded, and the car carrier pulled over on the side of the freeway as emergency crews responded.
At about 7:30 p.m., all lanes were reopened and the Sig Alert issued an hour earlier was lifted.
No injuries were immediately reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
