Stretch of SR-78 in Borrego Springs area reopened: Flash flooding caused road damage

SAN DIEGO - This weekend's flash flooding in the Borrego Springs area prompted Caltrans officials Monday to shut down a nine-mile stretch of state Route 78 for repairs.

Caltrans officials had to close SR-78 in both directions between Yaqui Pass Road and Borrego Springs Road in order for crews to repair damage caused by the flooding.

Traffic was detoured via Yaqui Pass and Borrego Springs roads.

Caltrans officials said the roadway was reopened just before 6:30 p.m.
