SAN DIEGO - Four burglary suspects who stole from a local department store and led police on a high-speed chase remain at large Friday.
According to authorities, police began pursuing the suspects' vehicle in National City shortly after 6:30 p.m.
An employee at Nordstrom Rack called police when one of their undercover security officers saw people inside the store stealing clothes. When police showed up to stop the suspects in the parking lot, the driver took off.
After taking westbound Interstate 8, the vehicle exited, entered eastbound I-8 and then proceeded on southbound I-5 into National City.
The vehicle led police from National City onto northbound Interstate 805, to westbound state Route 94 and then onto northbound Interstate 5. Speeds during the chase reached 100 mph. Meanwhile, police said, the suspects began to throw items out of car windows..
"They were throwing out, what we believe was merchandise, possibly stolen merchandise," said Sgt. Alex Hernandez with the National City Police Department.
The vehicle exited at 8th Street and then entered a National City neighborhood with its lights turned off.
Police said the suspects, two men and two women, abandoned the vehicle near 4th Street. K-9 units were brought in, but police were not able to find the suspects.
Police found the vehicle's trunk full of clothing and electronics.
"We're probably going to back track to try and locate some of the stuff," said Hernandez.
They remain at large as of Friday morning, but police said they have surveillance video that may help them find the suspects.
