SAN CARLOS, Calif. - Police are searching Monday for thieves who broke into a kiosk and tried to take money from an automated teller machine, but came up empty-handed.
Police and owners of the ATM received an alarm at 12:30 a.m. from a kiosk at the Sunburst Square shopping center in San Carlos.
Thieves broke into the kiosk, retrieved an interior part of the ATM meant to look valuable and fled the scene, police said.
Police found the stolen part, which had a global positioning system attached to it but no cash, near the mall. They were unable to locate any of the suspects.
Owners of ATM told police there is footage from a surveillance camera of the incident.
