SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A couple is hoping to recover some priceless items stolen from their home in Normal Heights.

Laura La Vigne returned to her house on E. Mountain View Wednesday night after a day of work and found it ransacked.

The burglar had ripped open the screen and climbed through an unlocked window.

Four laptops were stolen, including one belonging to La Vigne's wife Danielle, a fiction writer. It contained all of her work and almost all of it was not backed up.

Also missing was Danielle's engagement band.

"It sounds mushy but it was an expression of our love and officially moving forward together, not as two people but as 'us,'" said La Vigne.

The couple did have renter's insurance but hadn't realized it had lapsed at the beginning of July.
