Brush fire erupts in riverbed near Plaza Bonita

SAN DIEGO - It took crews just over an hour to put out a brush fire that broke out in a riverbed near Plaza Bonita Mall Tuesday.

The fire erupted just before 11:45 a.m. in a riverbed near the National City shopping mall, according to authorities.

The fire response prompted the California Highway Patrol to shut down at least two lanes on northbound I-805 heading to eastbound SR-54.

Shortly after 1 p.m., crews were able to knock down the flames. All lanes were reopened a short time later.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
