SAN DIEGO – A fire burned several palm trees and brush near a restaurant in Mission Valley early Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out around 2 a.m. near the area of Camino Del Rio North and Mission City Parkway, near Dave & Buster’s. It was spotted by an ambulance crew and it took responding San Diego Fire-Rescue crews about 20 minutes to knock the flames down. No structures were threatened or damaged.

The fire broke out in an area that is frequented by homeless campers. The cause is under investigation.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, several local leaders will hold a town hall style event to address San Diego’s growing homeless problem at Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in Mission Valley. Rep. Scott Peters and former state Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins will be among those attending.
