Brush fire erupts in Escondido

SAN DIEGO - A small brush fire near Bear Valley Parkway in Escondido prompted a few road closures Friday while crews fought the flames.

The blaze erupted for unknown reasons near the east end of Westfield North County mall in Escondido about 12:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Fire crews responded and were able to stop the flames at about 1:15 p.m.

The fire, which burned at least two acres, was a major concern for fire officials due to the weather conditions and heavy brush in the area.

Stretches of Bear Valley Parkway, East Via Rancho Parkway and Beethoven Drive were closed for safety purposes, according to authorities.
