SANTEE, Calif. - Military and civilian firefighters battled a blaze today that charred around 15 acres of brush in a canyon area northwest of Santee Lakes.
The fire was reported shortly after 8 a.m. and was burning in an unpopulated area of West Sycamore Canyon near the eastern edge of MCAS Miramar, according to fire and sheriff's officials.
Firefighting units from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, Miramar, Heartland Fire & Rescue and Cal Fire all responded shortly after the non-injury fire was reported.
By mid-afternoon, crews had the blaze about 30 percent contained and remained on scene to conduct mop-up operations, according to Miramar officials.
No structures were threatened, and crews had the blaze fully contained Saturday afternoon.
