Firefighters worked into the early morning hours Monday to extinguish a small Mission Valley brush fire that briefly shut down trolley service near Qualcomm Stadium. The non-injury blaze in a stretch of riverbed south of Rio San Diego and west of River Run Drive erupted about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.Light-rail service in the area was halted for several hours to allow crews to run their hoses across the tracks to douse the two-acre fire.Investigators were unable to pin down the precise cause of the blaze, though they concluded that it was sparked by human activity, either accidentally -- perhaps by a transient's campfire -- or intentionally, SDFRD spokesman Maurice Luque said. The thickly overgrown area has been the site of several arson fires in recent months.
