Brush fire breaks out in Chula Vista

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Fire crews responded to a brush fire that broke out in the 1000 block of Gunpowder Point Drive in Chula Vista.

The blaze erupted in an open area at the Living Coast Discovery Center on Gunpowder Point Drive at Bay Boulevard at about 3 p.m.

No structures were threatened, but heavy smoke made its way to nearby roadways.

After about 40 minutes, crews were able to get the flames under control. The fire burned about three acres.

Chula Vista fire officials were forced to shut down Bay Boulevard between E and F streets during the firefighting effort.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
