Breast-feeding mom served raw chicken from KFC

SAN DIEGO - A local woman notified 10News after she said a KFC restaurant served her two raw chicken sandwiches.

Alexandria Diaz said, "It tasted weird and it was kind of cold. So at first I thought it was cold cheese; then I spit it out and it I looked at the sandwich and it was raw. It looked like a breaded piece of raw chicken not cooked at all."

Diaz said she bought the food at the KFC restaurant in Mission Gorge.

Diaz said what made the situation even worse was what happened when her husband took the food back to the restaurant and talked to the manager.

Devin Diaz said the manager explained that some of the restaurant's fryers had broken down.

"He said, 'Well, at 6:30, somebody came in and said their potato wedges weren't cooked all the way.' I said, 'I came in at 7:50, so you guys kept using the fryer that was broken for an hour and a half,'" Devin Diaz told 10News.

10News anchor Itica Milanes went to the store to talk to the manager and found out he had been removed from restaurant. The new manager said the removal was because of other recent issues. She said she didn't know anything about the broken fryers or the raw chicken.

Alexandria Diaz said she's feeling a range of emotions but she's mostly "angry that [they] would sell me food that could hurt me, make me sick, make my baby sick."

Diaz is breast-feeding her three-month old baby, Elijan. He was born with a heart condition that left him with only half a heart.

Devin Diaz said, "So if he gets sick, something like salmonella, he could die very easily."

10News reached out to KFC's corporate office but did not receive a call back.

The Diaz family said they just want the restaurant to pay closer attention and to regularly check the temperature of their food.
