Boy found unconscious in swimming pool dies

SAN DIEGO - A 5-year-old boy hospitalized after he was found unconscious in a swimming pool died early Tuesday morning.
The incident was reported at about 7:40 p.m. Monday in the 11800 block of Stoney Peak Drive at the Jefferson at Carmel Mountain Ranch apartments, authorities said.
According to San Diego police Lt. Mark Bennett, the boy's mother had left him to be watched by one of the other adults while she stepped away for a couple of minutes.
The boy was found face-down in water, police said. When officers and paramedics arrived on scene, the boy was not breathing and medics started CPR.
He was initially taken to Pomerado Hospital, but was later transferred to Rady Children's Hospital.
The youngster, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at Rady Children's Hospital about 3:30 a.m., according to the Medical Examiner's Office.
