VISTA, Calif. - A young boy died Thursday after being struck by a car in a Vista neighborhood.
Authorities said the 6-year-old boy was struck near Spires Street and Melrose Drive just after 6 p.m. He suffered extensive head injuries.
The boy, identified as Isaac Carachure, was taken to Rady Children's Hospital, but died before arrival.
A relative said the boy was at a grandparent's home and playing with other children in the front yard when one of the children tossed a shoe into the street.
The boy went to retrieve the shoe but was struck by a vehicle, the relative said.
The driver of the car is a woman in her 40s, who lives a few houses down from where the children were playing, deputies said.
She was questioned, but not arrested as of late Thursday night. Investigators said alcohol or drugs were not involved in the accident, but they have not ruled out speed as a factor in the crash.
Residents nearby told 10News speeding cars had been a problem in their neighborhood.
