The accident on National Avenue at 37th Street was reported at 6:08 p.m. Saturday, said San Diego police Officer David Stafford.

The boy rode his bicycle into the street in front of the southbound car, Stafford said. The impact broke the boy's tibia and fibula and he was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The driver of the car fled the scene, meaning he will be sought for felony hit-and-run even though the accident was the boy's fault, Stafford said.
