Border Patrol finds heroin in car's rocker panels at checkpoint near Salton Sea

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a man suspected of smuggling heroin on Highway 86 west of the Salton Sea Thursday.

A Border Patrol Canine Detection team alerted agents to the driver's side of the man's Chrysler Sebring as he approached the primary inspection area.

Upon further inspection, agents found six packages of Mexican brown powder heroin in the car's rocker panel compartments.  The total weight of the heroin was 15.85 pounds with an estimated street value of $150,575.

The man is a U.S. citizen and was taken into custody by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
