CAMP PENDLETON - Loud booms were likely to be heard around Camp Pendleton Thursday as airborne Marines conduct live-fire training and drop high explosives near the center of base.
The live-fire training will be done in the "Whiskey" impact area from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., according to Camp Pendleton's public affairs office. The office also said other aircraft will be dropping high explosives in the Zulu impact area from 10 a.m. until noon.
"Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away," according to a base statement.
