SAN DIEGO - The bomb squad was called to the parking lot of a pharmacy in Rolando on Friday after officers found a stash of weapons in the trunk of a man's car.
The discovery was made at about 7 p.m. at the CVS Pharmacy parking lot on El Cajon Boulevard near 62nd Street in Rolando.
Undercover officers were at the pharmacy conducting an underage alcohol operation. That is when one young man – who appeared to be about 20 years old – went inside the pharmacy and purchased a beer with an out-of-state ID that did not belong to him, a witness said.
When the man left the store with the beer, he was followed by undercover police officers, who saw something suspicious in his car and began investigating.
Police cleared out the shopping center. The bomb squad was called after police found several guns, including one that appeared to look like a sniper rifle in the trunk of the man's car. Police said they also found other concerning material inside the car.
The man was taken into custody for charges related to buying alcohol. Additional charges related the weapons could be pending.
No more information about the incident was immediately available.
