Dog's 'hit' on luggage at airport prompts bomb squad call

SAN DIEGO - A bomb squad was called out to San Diego International Airport on Thursday after a dog got a 'hit' on a piece of luggage.

The incident happened shortly before 3 p.m. and was centered at Terminal 1. It did cause delays for some travelers.

Most of the terminal was cleared out while Harbor Police and the San Diego Metro-Arson Strike Team looked over the bag. Authorities declared the area safe shortly after 3:30 p.m., airport spokesman Steve Shultz said.

Authorities did not find anything dangerous in the bag. A traveler apparently had simply left the piece of luggage in the area inadvertently, the spokesman said.
