CARLSBAD, Calif. - A freight train struck and killed a pedestrian near Buena Vista Lagoon early Tuesday.
The unidentified man's body was found just south of Carlsbad Village Drive at about 5:45 a.m., sheriff's Sgt. Emory Wallace said.
The man apparently had been hit by a northbound Pacific Sun cargo train about three and a half hours earlier, the sergeant said.
The county Medical Examiner's Office will determine the victim's identity along with the circumstances of his death.
