SANTEE, Calif. -  

A body was found floating in an East County lake Thursday, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department reported.
 
The discovery at Santee Lakes Regional Park in the 9300 block of Fanita Parkway was reported about 8:30 a.m., a sheriff's dispatcher said.
 
10News learned that workers opening a gate at the Padre Dam Municipal Water District offices spotted a blue cap in the water. They also saw a parked vehicle behind the locked gate.
 
Deputies who responded to the scene discovered the man's body submerged in water. Deputies said that the circumstances behind the death is under investigation.
 
The county Medical Examiner's Office was called in to take custody of the corpse for identification and autopsy purposes.
