BMW smashes into tree, traps driver

SAN DIEGO - A single-vehicle crash in the Stockton neighborhood left a 21-year-old driver with a broken hip and his 17-year-old passenger with minor injuries, police said today.
The driver of a BMW sedan was headed west on Market Street near 33rd Street at a high rate of speed and lost control shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said. The sedan veered off the roadway and struck a tree, he said.
The crash left the driver trapped inside the vehicle and rescuers cut him out, according to the officer.
Delimitros said the driver's injuries were not life-threatening.
