SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Investigators are looking into a blaze that destroyed a multi-million dollar home in Fairbanks Ranch.
Crews said the fire erupted shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday inside a gated community in the 6,000 block of Via Cordoba.
Investigators said the home was under renovation and no one lived inside. However, the home was filled with work supplies and scaffolding which has kept the flames stoked for many hours.
Fire blew out of the garage area when crews arrived at the scene, said Bret Davidson, a battalion chief with the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Department.
Once crews were inside, the fire quickly spread from the first to the second floor of the 12,000-square-foot home. Crews engaged in a defensive attack from outside as flames destroyed the home's roof.
Neighbors were evacuated, but the fire did not spread to other homes.
One firefighter was treated for minor injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
